I am a staff member of the Children's Dept, Fairfield Public Library. I am running a summer program called Together is Better. I would like to use a few of your poems, from The Llama Who Had No Pajama. I wrote a letter to Harcourt Brace, but thought a direct email to you might get a faster response. The program begins July 8, 2008. Thank you !!!

I would be delighted to have you include my poems in your summer program subject to copyright regulations. How will you be using them? |

My crew of five children received "The Seven Silly Eaters" as a gift quite a few years ago. We loved it then and always felt a special bond with the illustrations of the crazy, messy happy home. Today we were going through books to give away. All 5 are teenagers now and every year or so we need to make way for the more recent books stacked on top of book shelves, in corners and a various odd places. Each time a few books make the cut; too special to give away. You should know that as "The Seven Silly Eaters" was found on the shelf, there was once again a loud chorus of "not that one, we can't give that away." As I write it's being passed around for yet another reading. Thank you for this book we love. The Hylands

What a nice message! At our house we had four silly eaters and I availed myself of poetic license to jump them to seven for the book! I get so much pleasure out of hearing from readers like you and your family - it's as if long ago I threw a cherished stone out into a big lake and years later it's still making silvery ripples. Thank you! |

Dear Alyssa, How nice to hear from you again! Yes, we have two dogs, a brother and sister named Pico and Maria. They are Spinones, an Italian breed, so we gave them Italian names. Many years ago when our children were little, we had two cats as well - they were named Mr. Cat and Whiskerton Puss.
Just like you, I love to play tennis, go to the movies, and hang out with my friends! I especially like old movies and mysteries. Have a nice summer! |

Hi Mrs. Hoberman! We wanted to write you and tell you that we LOVE your books! Every time we go to the library, we go straight to "H" and get every book written by you. We have checked out The Seven Silly Eaters over a dozen times now (I'm thinking we will be purchasing that one soon!) and it is my very favorite. We read it all the time, and I laugh and laugh every time. Fran and Flo are my favorites because they are so funny! We were very excited to find the recipe for the cake and will be trying it out very soon. Thank you for your wonderful books!

Thanks so much for writing! When I was a little girl, I loved the library, too - one summer I decided I would read straight through the alphabet. I'm afraid I didn't even make it through the authors whose names began with A; but back then I never dreamed that many years later another little girl would go to the H's and look for MY name! I hope you like the cake!
